Id verification

Rentoolz partners with Stripe Identity to let renters verify who they are before booking certain listings.

What it is

A quick, Stripe-hosted check: a photo of your driver's license and a selfie. Stripe's automated systems and manual reviewers check the document against patterns from hundreds of real ID types, then match your selfie to the ID photo using liveness detection to catch spoofing attempts. Stripe reports only a pass or fail result back to Rentoolz.

What it isn't

Rentoolz never sees or stores your license photo, your selfie, or any personal document data. Only the verified status is kept. Stripe's check is based on a digital photo of your ID, not the physical document itself, so it can't perform checks that require handling the document directly, such as security threading or texture under UV light. It's a strong automated screen, not a physical inspection.

Why it helps

Owners get more confidence renting higher-value tools to verified renters. Renters get access to listings that require it. Once verified, your account shows a verified badge for future bookings, and the verification stays valid for two years before a quick renewal is needed.

A common practice

Stripe Identity runs on the same technology Stripe uses for its own risk and compliance program, and identity checks like this one are standard practice across online marketplaces today.
